    I have been working since November, 2005, as a research hydrometeorologist at the Centre National de Recherches Meteorologiques (National Center for Meteorological Research: CNRM/GMME/SURFACE) which is a part of Meteo France in Toulouse, France. I am employed by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (National Center for Scientific Research: (CNRS) and am a part of the CNRS group at CNRM Meteo-France.

Research Interests

    My research mainly focuses on land-atmosphere feedbacks, the modeling of continental surface processes and hydrometeorology. I spend a good deal of my time working on improving the representation of such processes in terms of the parameterizations for application in meteorological (mesoscale, NWP and GCMs) and hydrology models. I have also spent considerable effort developing and evaluating soil and snowpack processes. Finally, part of my activities include directing PhD students, Post-doctoral researchers and Masters students. If you are interested in working at CNRM, please contact me.

A few activites

    I am a member of the Science Team (ST) for the joint CNES-NASA SWOT (Surface Water Ocean Topography) mission. The SWOT mission will use altimetry in order to provide elevation measurements over the worlds oceans and freshwater bodies. Launch is currently slated for 2021. Scientific presentations can be accessed at the NASA JPL website.

    I am currently a member of the Global Land Atmosphere System Study GLASS Panel. The Global Land Atmosphere System Study (GLASS) is a scientific panel of the Global Energy and Water EXchanges (GEWEX), a core project within the World Climate Research Programme.

    Member of the SURFEX Steering Committee. SURFEX (Surface externalized) is a numerical code or platform which simulates the evolution of surface variables and the corresponding atmosphere/surface fluxes. It can be used either "off-line" (i.e. forced by observed, analysed or idealized data, without feedbacks with the atmosphere ) or "in-line" (i.e. as a module which is fully coupled with an atmospheric model). It contains various scientific submodels and options within the four main surface types (bare soil/vegetation, urbanized areas, inland water and sea/ocean), which allows easy implementation and testing of scientific improvements of these models. The SURFEX code is maintained by CNRM (National Centre for Meteorological Research) Meteo-France, and is available to the ALADIN, HIRLAM and MesoNH consortia. It is also accessible to the scientific community for research purposes.


    I have spent considerable time on research and development concerning the ISBA land surface scheme at CNRM. I have also examined the performance of other land surface schemes through the international Rhone-AGGregation project which I ran at CNRM. I worked from 2003-2004 at the Centres d'Etudes Spatiales de la Biosphere (Center for the Study of the Biosphere from Space: CESBIO) in Toulouse. I was at CNRM from 1998-2003, and at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA-GSFC) from 1992-1997, where I was employed by Science Systems and Applications Inc. (SSAI). I attended Florida State University (meteorology from 1988-1992, Northern Illinois University (meteorology) from 1987-1988, and the University of Louisville from 1986-1987. I received my PhD in hydrometeorology from Paul Sabatier University in Toulouse, France, (1998-2000).
